Our interest in this business started when I was pregnant with our son, Ben. It was the first day of school for our daughter, and Walter had just put her on the bus when a little black fur ball jumped up on the porch and walked right into the house. He made himself very comfortable, climbed up on a chair and went to sleep. We asked around, and no one claimed him so we took him to the vet. This was just before Feline Leukemia was as rampant as it is now and the vet spent a few weeks trying to find out what was wrong with our little friend, whom we had named Sabastian. Finally the vet came back with the bad news that Sabastian had feline leukemia and had to be put to sleep. Even worse was the news that we had to wait six weeks to have another pet. At 5 ½ weeks I was at the shelter looking at cats. We chose a brown tabby and our daughter named her Vikki. But that was not the end of the story. There was an ad in the paper that a woman was giving six cats away and to make a long story short, we took two of hers. One was the Beauty that you see in all our paperwork. Another came to us as a stray we started feeding when we found her eating the dry bread I put out for the birds. Then came "Grandpa Fred", the cat our daughter brought home from college. He is the last of our pets that moved with us from New England.
Realizing how hard it was for us to loose our pet, we thought we could bring some comfort and peace to others losing their pets. It is our belief that our pets go before us to prepare the way for us. If you have read the story Rainbow Bridge you know that somehow these pets that loved us here will not let us be alone wherever we journey. The Spirit of our animals is always with us.
